Look at one school from the MAT overview

Sometimes you only want to see how a school is doing: is its sync healthy, what went wrong last night, who changed a setting. The MAT overview lets you do that without switching school. Your own tab stays in MAT mode, so you never lose your place and you can't change anything by accident.

Before you start

  • You must be an admin who can reach that school (a trust admin), in MAT mode on the MAT overview.
  • Your admin access must include both View sync status and View logs & audit trail, because the view combines the school's dashboard, sync status, logs and audit trail. An admin on the Reduced access level doesn't have View logs & audit trail, so the school names on the MAT overview open a 403 error instead. See Reduced admin access.

Steps

Step 1: Open the MAT overview

Choose MAT overview — all schools in the school switcher at the top of the page. See Switch school context.

Step 2: Select a school's name

In the Schools table, select the school's name. It has a small "opens in a new tab" arrow after it. The school opens in a new browser tab. Your first tab is untouched and still in MAT mode.

Step 3: Read the summary

The new tab is headed with the school's name and a Read-only view badge, and a banner explaining: "You're viewing another school's summary across your trust. This is read-only — you are not signed in as this school, and your own active context is unchanged." The school switcher at the top still shows your own context.

There are four tabs:

  • Dashboard — the school's counts (Members, Active, Suspended, Groups) and a Sync snapshot with Last provision, Last MIS import, a 14-day activity line and Healthy or "N things to look at". Below are Members by role, the eight Newest members and Connected services (which of Google provisioning, Google group sync, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, Apple sync, QR login and Import parents are switched on). If the school's end-of-year freeze is on, a Provisioning is frozen card says its MIS changes are being held.
  • Sync status — the Sync run status, a Window drop-down (Last 24h, Last 7 days or Last 30 days), the numbers Applied, Didn't apply and Success rate, which integrations are On or Off, and Things to look at: each cause listed once, most urgent first.
  • Logs — the 100 most recent log entries. Filter by Outcome (Errors, Success or All outcomes) and Issue window. It shows the totals Errors and Affected users.
  • Audit trail — the 100 most recent changes, with filters for the Admin and for a Setting or action. It includes the IP address and approximate location of whoever made each change, so treat it as personal data.

Step 4: Go to work in the school, if you need to

Nothing on this page can fix anything: there is no sync button, retry, suspend or settings control. To act, choose the school in the school switcher in your own tab. See Switch school context.

The link in the Schools table is a temporary one. It works for 8 hours, so you can reload or bookmark the tab during a working day, but after that you need to open it again from the MAT overview. Each time the page loads, Realsmart also checks that your account can currently reach that school, so a change to your access takes effect straight away.

Troubleshooting

  • "You do not have permission to access this." or "You do not have permission to view another school here." (403) — your access doesn't include both View sync status and View logs & audit trail. Ask a full admin to change your access, or switch into the school to look at it with the permissions you do have.
  • "You do not have access to this school." (403) — the school isn't one you can reach. See Admin permissions.
  • A 403 error after the tab has been open all day — the link has expired. Go back to the MAT overview and select the school's name again.
