Smart XP Snapshot
Overview
Smart XP Snapshot fetches and displays a pupil's snapshot from XP School's SOS (Snapshot) system, looked up by email address. It's built specifically for schools in the XP School trust network — on any other website the shortcode will not return meaningful data.
There's no settings page — you place the shortcode wherever you want a snapshot to appear.
Getting set up
Step 1: Add the shortcode
Add [show_xp_snapshot] to a page. On its own, it shows the snapshot for whichever visitor is currently signed in, using their account email.
Step 2: Show a specific pupil (optional)
To show a particular pupil instead of the signed-in visitor, add their email address: [show_xp_snapshot email="[email protected]"]. The visitor still has to be signed in. Everyone signed in who can open the page sees that pupil's snapshot, so only use this on a page limited to the right people.
Features
| Shortcode | Parameters | Description |
|---|---|---|
[show_xp_snapshot] |
email |
Displays the XP snapshot for the given email address (defaults to the signed-in visitor's email). The visitor must be signed in either way |
Requirements:
- Built for schools in the XP School trust network — it automatically works out which XP School website you're using it on.
- The visitor must be signed in, with an email address on their account, for anything to show. This applies even when you use the
emailattribute.
Troubleshooting
Nothing appears, or the snapshot doesn't load
Why it happens: The visitor isn't signed in, the email address doesn't match a pupil in XP's SOS system, or XP's SOS service is temporarily unreachable. A signed-out visitor sees the message "No timetable data available." (the wording is shared with Smart Timetable, but here it means the snapshot can't be shown).
How to fix it:
- Confirm you're testing while signed in, whether or not you use the
emailattribute. - If you are using the
emailattribute, double-check the email address is correct. - If the issue affects several pupils at once, contact Realsmart support.
