Smart Attendance

Overview

Smart Attendance displays a doughnut chart of the signed-in visitor's attendance under the heading My Attendance. The chart splits their attendance into Present, Authorised Absence, Unauthorised Absence and Unexplained Absence, with their present percentage shown alongside. The data is fetched live from Realsmart's SmartLogin service each time the page loads, so there's nothing to keep up to date on the website itself.

There's no settings page — you place the shortcode wherever you want the chart to appear, typically on a pupil dashboard or parent portal page.

Getting set up

Step 1: Add the shortcode

Add [show_user_attendance] to a page or post that signed-in visitors can reach — for example a pupil dashboard. Publish the page.

Step 2: Test it while signed in

Visit the page while signed in through your school's usual Realsmart sign-in. You should see a "My Attendance" doughnut chart. If you view the page signed out, you'll see a message that no attendance data is available instead — this is expected.

Features

Shortcode Parameters Description
[show_user_attendance] None Doughnut chart of the signed-in visitor's attendance

Requirements: The visitor must be signed in with a valid login token from your school's usual sign-in route. It isn't restricted to pupils — any signed-in visitor with a token sees their own record.

Troubleshooting

The chart doesn't appear, or shows "No attendance data available"

Why it happens: The visitor isn't signed in, their login token has expired or is missing, or SmartLogin has no attendance data for them. The data is requested from the visitor's browser, so if that request fails the chart area is replaced with "No attendance data available."

How to fix it:

  1. Confirm you're testing while signed in through your school's usual Realsmart sign-in — an account signed in with a WordPress username and password has no token.
  2. Sign out and back in again to refresh the token.
  3. If it still doesn't appear for a signed-in visitor, contact Realsmart support.
