Remove a user from a group

Remove a user from a group

You can remove a person from a group either from the group's Members tab or from the user's own edit page.

Before you start

  • You must be an admin for the current school.

Method 1 — From the group edit page

Step 1 — Open the group {#step-1-group}

Select Groups in the sidebar, find the group, and select Edit.

Step 2 — Go to the Members tab {#step-2-group}

Select the Members tab.

Step 3 — Remove the user {#step-3-group}

Find the person in the list and select the × button on their row.

A confirmation dialog appears. Select OK to confirm removal.

Method 2 — From the user edit page

Step 1 — Open the user's edit page {#step-1-user}

Select Users in the sidebar, find the person, and select Edit.

Step 2 — Go to the Memberships tab {#step-2-user}

Select the Memberships tab.

Step 3 — Remove from a specific group {#step-3-user}

Find the group in the list and select the × button next to it. Confirm when prompted.

Step 4 — Remove from all groups at once (optional) {#step-4-user}

Select Remove all to remove the user from every group in one step. A confirmation dialog will warn you that this removes all memberships. Confirm to proceed.

Result

The user is removed from the group immediately. At the next sync, the change is applied in connected platforms (Google Workspace, Entra, Active Directory) — they lose access to any shared drives, groups, or resources associated with that cohort.

Troubleshooting

  • "The × button is not there" — some memberships may be locked (individually pinned). Locked memberships can only be removed from the user's Memberships tab, not from the group directly.
