Let people arrange their own Launchpad

Everyone can make the Launchpad their own: put the apps they use most at the top, add links to their favourite sites, and choose how it looks. You decide how much your school allows. People only ever see apps you have made visible to them. Rearranging never gives anyone an app.

Choose what people can do

  1. Open Apps and select the Personal layouts tab.
  2. Switch each setting on or off. Each one saves as soon as you change it.
Setting What it does Default

Changes take up to a minute to reach people.

What people see

When people open the Launchpad they see three sections: Pinned, School apps and My links. (Staff who can reset pupils' passwords also get a Smart admin section with a Reset student passwords tile.) To change it they select Edit my apps, drag an app to move it (or use the arrows), tap the star to pin it, then select Done. They can also choose a light or dark look, a colour, the size of the tiles and a background picture, from the Launchpad or on their Profile page (see Switch theme and colour theme). Edit my apps only appears if you've left Let members arrange their apps and widgets on. Your school's order is still the starting point, and apps you add later reach everyone.

People can also put their widgets in order from the Widgets button, next to Edit my apps: whether Coming up or the Classroom card comes first, and the order of Due work, To review and My classes inside the card. The day at the top of the Launchpad always stays there. Like apps, this only reorders widgets your school already shows them, and a widget you switch on later appears in its usual place. Switching off Let members arrange their apps and widgets puts everyone back to the school's order for both.

See how one person has arranged theirs

  1. Open Users and open the person (you need the Manage users & groups permission).
  2. Select the Launchpad tab.

You see their pinned apps, school apps, links and any apps they have hidden, plus their tile size and background, and what they're allowed to do: Can arrange apps, Can add links and Can hide apps (or the Cannot … versions). This tab is read only, apart from the reset below.

Reset one person's layout

If someone has got their Launchpad in a muddle, select Reset their layout on the Launchpad tab and confirm. Their pinned apps, order, hidden apps, tile size and background go back to the school's order. Their own links are kept, and so is their light or dark choice and their colour. The button only shows when they have changed something, and a message says Layout reset. They see the school order again. Each reset is recorded in the audit trail.

Switch the new design off

Switch off Use the new Launchpad design on the Personal layouts tab. Your school goes back to the old Launchpad and panel within a minute. People's layouts are kept, so switching it on again brings them back.
