Timetable and Coming up on the Launchpad

What people see

Timetable. Pupils and staff see their own lessons. The panel bar shows what is on now or next, and the Launchpad shows today and a My week page. Class codes, rooms and teachers come from your school's timetable data. Pupils see their lessons; staff see the lessons they teach.

Coming up. One list on the Launchpad, soonest first (at most eight items), of:

  • Google Classroom work due in the next 7 days. Pupils see work they haven't handed in. Staff see work due in their classes, with how many pupils have handed in.
  • School events from Smart Parents in the next 14 days, including cancelled ones until the date passes.
  • School calendar events from up to five of your school's shared Google (or Microsoft 365) calendars (school events, sport, trips) in the next 14 days, each labelled with the calendar's name. These need the live launchpad widgets with School calendar switched on (see Add the school's Google calendars to Coming up).
  • For people who have My calendar switched on (staff, and pupils if your school chose that), their own calendar events from tomorrow to a week ahead, labelled My calendar (titles show as Busy until the person chooses to show them). Today's events sit with their timetable.

Switching a role's Coming up switch off (below) removes the whole Coming up row for that role, including school calendar and My calendar items.

Choose who sees them

  1. Open School settings and select the Launchpad tab (it's in the tab bar on the page, not in the sidebar). You need the Change school settings permission.
  2. In the Timetable card, use the switches:
    • Show the timetable to pupils and Show the timetable to staff.
    • Show what's coming up to pupils and Show what's coming up to staff.
  3. Select Save changes. The page says School settings saved.

Everything is on until you switch it off. Changes reach the Launchpad within a minute or two. The timetable in the panel bar is kept on each person's device for up to about half an hour, so it can take that long to change there, and lessons themselves are refreshed from your timetable data about every hour.

What each part needs

  • Timetable: your school's timetable data from Wonde or SOS, and Wonde ids on pupils and staff. If a person has no timetable data, they see "Your timetable isn't available yet".
  • Coming up, Classroom work: Google Classroom reporting switched on for the school (under Google Workspace → Classroom, see Google Classroom settings). The reporting data refreshes once a day at 16:00, so work handed in later in the day still shows as to do until the next morning.
  • Coming up, school events: the Smart Parents app switched on, with the calendar set to app events (see Smart Parents events) and events published.

If your school has neither Classroom reporting nor Smart Parents events, the two Coming up switches are greyed out and say Not available yet: this school has neither Classroom reporting nor Smart Parents events switched on. Coming up then only appears for people who get school calendar events or their own calendar from the live launchpad widgets; otherwise it isn't shown.

Coming up and the Due work widget

Where your school has the live launchpad widgets, Due work shows pupils their Google Classroom work refreshed through the day, not just from the 16:00 import. A pupil who sees Due work gets their Classroom work there instead of in Coming up, which keeps showing their school events. Staff keep Coming up as it is. The Launchpad tab says so when it applies, and its Launchpad widgets card shows whether the widgets are on, with Manage launchpad widgets to set them up — see Launchpad widgets.

Notices at the top of the launchpad

To put a banner at the top of everyone's launchpad — a closure, a trip, a reminder — use Launchpad notices, linked from the Notices card on this tab (Manage notices). See Launchpad notices.

If the timetable is switched off for the school

Some schools have the timetable switched off for the whole school. The card then reads The timetable is switched off for this school. Contact [email protected] to turn it on. and the switches can't be changed. Contact support to turn it on.

Troubleshooting

  • "Your timetable isn't available yet" for some pupils or staff. Realsmart has no timetable data for that person: check they have a Wonde id and that your MIS sends their timetable.
  • The Coming up switches are greyed out. Neither Classroom reporting nor Smart Parents events is on. See What each part needs.
  • Pupils don't see their Classroom work in Coming up. They may be getting it from the Due work widget instead (see above), or Classroom reporting is off.
  • The Save changes button is greyed out. The timetable is switched off for the whole school, or the settings aren't available yet (the card says These switches will be available shortly.).
