Smart Parents app coverage by class

Before you send a notice to a class, it helps to know who it will actually reach. App coverage shows, for every class, how many pupils have a parent signed up to the Smart Parents app — and lets you see who to chase. You need to be an admin who holds Manage Smart Parents.

How it's counted

The same way teacher mode in the app counts it:

  • Classes are your teaching groups — not year groups, houses or staff groups, and not deleted, suspended or disabled ones. A class with no active pupils isn't listed.
  • Pupils are current, active members of the class.
  • A parent on the app has signed up and linked the pupil, and their account hasn't been removed.
  • A parent gets a push when they have notifications switched on and a phone registered. Parents without a push still see notices when they next open the app.

Steps

Step 1: See every class

Open Smart Parents in the sidebar and choose the App coverage tab (it has no sidebar shortcut of its own). The line above the table says how many classes there are and how many have no parent on the app.

For each class the table shows Pupils with a parent on the app (a bar, green at 75% or more, and "12 of 30"), Parents on the app, and Get a push. Choose Least covered first in the sort list to see where to start (the other choice is By name), or type in Search classes.

Export CSV downloads every class's figures (Class, Pupils, Pupils with a parent on the app, Share, Parents on the app, Parents who get a push).

Step 2: Open a class

Select a class's name. Every pupil in it is listed with their year, and No parent on the app against anyone who still needs one; otherwise a count of their parents, and how many of those get a push. Select All classes to go back.

Step 3: Open a pupil

Select a pupil to see their parents on the app: email, mobile, when they signed up, and whether a notice would buzz their phone (Gets a push, Push switched off or No phone registered).

If nobody has signed up for the pupil it says so: "No parent has signed up for {name} yet. Give a parent the pupil's PIN from the Students tab."

To get a pupil's parent on the app, give them the pupil's username and PIN from the Students tab (see Smart Parents settings).

If something doesn't look right

  • "No teaching groups with pupils at this school." Coverage only lists teaching groups with at least one active pupil. Year groups, houses and staff groups aren't classes here.
  • "No classes match." Your search matched nothing: clear Search classes.
  • A parent shows "Push switched off" or "No phone registered". They still see every notice when they open the app, but their phone won't buzz. They can switch notifications on in the app, and a phone registers once they've signed in on it and allowed notifications.
