MAT Nav Menus

Manage trust-wide navigation links from a central MAT site and push them to all school menus in the trust.

Overview

MAT Nav Menus lets the central multi-academy trust team maintain a registry of shared links (trust policies, governance pages, central services) that individual school sites can add to their navigation menus. When a link is updated centrally, it updates everywhere it is used.

This is only available on the designated central MAT school site.

Getting Set Up

Central MAT administrators:

  1. Go to Smart PluginsMat Nav.
  2. Add MAT links with a title and URL.
  3. Save.

School site administrators:

  1. Go to AppearanceMenus.
  2. In the MAT Menus meta box, select links to add.
  3. Click Add To Menu.
  4. Save the menu.

Features

Central link registry

Where to find it: Smart Plugins → Mat Nav (central MAT site only)

  • Add a MAT Link — enter a Title and URL
  • Existing MAT Links — view, edit, and delete trust-wide links

Adding links to school menus

Where to find it: Appearance → Menus → MAT Menus meta box

Select links from the central registry and add them to your school's navigation menu. Updates to the central link propagate to all menu items using that link.

Common Tasks

Adding a new trust policy link

  1. On the central MAT site, go to Smart PluginsMat Nav.
  2. Add the link title and URL.
  3. Save.
  4. On each school site, add the link to the relevant menu via AppearanceMenus.

Tips & Best Practice

  • Keep the central link registry focused on trust-wide resources, not school-specific pages.
  • Review menus on each school site after adding new central links.
  • Coordinate with school administrators before adding links to their menus.

Troubleshooting

The Mat Nav menu is not visible

Why it happens: This feature is only available on the central MAT school site, not on individual school sites.

How to fix it:

  1. Confirm you are on the central MAT site.
  2. Contact Realsmart support if you are unsure which site is designated as central.

MAT links are not appearing in the menu editor

Why it happens: The central link registry may be empty, or you may be on a school site before links have been added centrally.

How to fix it:

  1. Ask the central MAT team to add links first.
  2. Refresh the Menus page.
